The blood sport known as congressional elections rolls around in 2010, and already the mainstream media establishment is sizing up the landscape to decide how to market, promote, and seize ratings as the calendar pushes towards November. How much is hype and media spin and what is reality?

Chris Cilizza wrote an interesting piece for the Washington Post that suggests that GOP wins may be diminished by a growing number of retiring candidates. The current count is 14. Cilizza further suggests that January is “a critical month in determining where the open seat landscape is headed”.

Although history is on the side of Republicans, (the President’s own party tends to lose seats in the midterm elections) Michael Steele the chairman of the GOP told Fox News that he did not believe that the Republicans would take back the House in 2010, but the November election would build enormous momentum.

We need to remember as voters to be very leery of the media created talking points of the day. Remember, base your votes upon the issues not upon the babbling of useless information from organizations driven by webpage hits and ratings.
