Must Read Blogs and Op-Eds — September 9, 2009
Simon and I are back after our summer hiatus. Can you believe what the month of August brought us? I had a friend of mine last November, who told me that Sarah Palin was finished (with much Animus towards the Republican VP nominee) and that she would go back to Alaska and dissapear. I disagreed with her. I told her that I felt that Sarah Palin, had a particular “it” factor that the right wing simply loved. As one tweeter told me, ”She is Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher rolled into one”. Isn’t it amazing that one person, who resigned from Government office and is considered a complete lunatic and idiot by the majority of the country is able to post a few lines on her Facebook page and it creates a complete crisis in Health Care Reform message? Who would have thought the key words for the summer would be “death panels” and “pulling the plug on Grandma”?
Simply put, the American electorate does not require intelligence in order to be elected. Since 2000, we have gone the way of the teenage set electing our Presidents (and I do include Barack Obama in this mix) not based on skill sets, capability, and experience, but on popularity. If people think that it is impossible for Palin to not become the Republican Nominee, simply need to look at the last idiot elected to the highest office — George W. Bush! Its clear, based on Palin’s Facebook message that changed a nation and aided in dropping the poll number of POTUS 10 digits that “American Idol” Presidency is far from being cancelled. Infact, we might just see a woman in the final two!
