Must Read Blog’s and Op-Ed’s — July 21, 2009
I am reminded of Elmer Fudd this morning and said to myself, ”those whaskly wabbits,” when I looked at the opinions sections of major news outlets. We have the Republican House majority leader John Boehner talking about increase of taxes on families and small business. Kay Bailey Hutchinson is upset over the possibility of hospital closures if the President has his way with Universal Health Care. In addition, the Wall Street Journal has an opinion piece on ERISA and complains that federal benefits such as health care would make it difficult for companies to retain workers. Even odder, Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe evoked “Jesus”.
The reality is that many individuals do not have affordable health care or health care at all, and although congress seemed more than willing to give Bush a blank check on the War in Iraq to fight weapons of mass destruction that did not exist (to the tune of 1 trillion dollars), it is feeling a bit cagey about giving health benefits to those that cannot afford them. Although, the republicans are very focused on the 44% dissaproval of how Obama is handling health care, what they fail to mention is that many that dissasprove are those that feel that he is not being aggressive enough. Maybe if we placed a picture of a terrorist as the new spokesperson for disease, we could get something done. Until then…
