Must Read Blog’s and Op-Ed’s — July 17, 2009
Today, I shall rant. So buckle your seat belts — scud missiles incoming. As I went through the op-eds over the last few days to post them on the site, I found one written by Brent Bozell, which focuses exclusively on CNBC’s Melissa Lee’s expose on pornography. You can read the op-ed, and see that while Bozell is proclaiming that Lee is simply profiting off the “shock and awe” factor of porn, Bozell must not realize that he is doing the exact same thing? However, his focus is on the much darker elements of pornography or “fetish” porn. Bozell fails to realize that there is also a much “softer” version floating on and off the internet, which in itself is profitable and a business. Who gives a damn what adults are doing? You would think with unemployment bordering on 10% that he could have waited a few percentage points lower before doing this type of opinion piece.
Here is my problem — plain and simple. In his article he writes, ”This kind of special is the prostituting of journalism; this compares to “business news” about the same way that Nancy Grace’s lurid crime interviews compare to hard news.” Does Mr. Bozell not realize that he is doing the exact same thing? Or is hiding simply behind the monitor doing god knows what with his god knows why? There are so many topics that he could be writing about, which many people are interested in such as the iran election, health care, climate control, and the failing financial industry. Why does he have to write about porn? I’ll tell you why — to sell an opinion piece. I suppose Bozell’s attempts at opinion pieces are similar to Anne Coulter’s attempts at being a “right wing attack dog”
It makes you wonder who the whores really are!
