Must Read Blog’s And Op-Ed’s — July 6, 2009
This weekend has been kind of difficult. I am by no means a fan of Sarah Palin, infact she evokes in me a possible repudiation of my own Shadow components (a Jungian term for the repressed aspects of our own personality). However, trying to analyze this womans motives is just not possibly under a normal frame of reference, and her behavior is curious at best.
On Friday, when she announced that she was resigning as Governor of Alaska, a media swirl began to occur. Andrea Mitchell claimed that Palin was out of politics for good, and others mentioned possible FBI investigations (which later proved to be false) and other inquiries into Sarah Palin’s activities as Mayor of Wasilla, AK and as Governor. Will she take Greta’s spot on Fox? Is she pregnant? I even heard of an affair between Levi Johnston and the good Governor (as ludicrous as that is)! Today, the media continues to swirl.
So, why did Palin resign? That I do not know. I do feel that her future though is squarely in her own hands. I think what we as opinion writers and reporters should do, is simply let her do what she needs to do. If she plans to run for President — that is ok, it does not mean that she will be elected. In many ways, I think the media is more in love with Sarah Palin that it is Barack Obama. The classic build them up and then tear them down scenario seems to be written all over the Palin script and stagecraft. It will be more entertaining for journalists if Palin does run for President and wins the Republican Nomination in 2012. In many ways, this is a classic case and I do have to wonder whether sexism is involved here. This same scenario happened to the woman who shattered that glass ceiling with 18 million votes (and won the Popular Vote in the Democratic Primaries) Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Just something to ponder.
