I am watching MSNBC as I write this, and I dont know whether to be shocked or abhored.   Out of all the channels, MSNBC is my clear favorite, but as of late, I have become a little “unhinged” by its coverage.  Let us start with #iranelection coverage, MSNBC has seriously (except for Rachel Maddow) missed the ball game on its coverage.   Rather than cover the Iran protests, it has chosen to air episodes of its “all crime all the time” weekend lineup.   Today, several major issues are in the news including the financial crisis in California, and further protests in Iran, and MSNBC is covering Sarah Palin’s latest shredding in Vanity Fair Magazine and the never ending coverage of Michael Jackson’s death.

MSNBC was handed a golden egg with the election of Barack Obama.  They have positioned themselves as the alternative voice to the ever conservative Fox News.   However, despite the incredible addition of Rachel Maddow, it has really not created the online media and television news outlet it could be. For example, why does MSNBC not have coverage, when the resources for the coverage (most of #Iranelection) has been internet dominated is pretty inexpensive.  In an ailing economy, surely some of the hosts at MSNBC seeking to keep their jobs, would be more than willing to cover these stories. Further, its new shows Morning Meeting (even though Dyligan is quite the eyecandy) and Doctor Whatshername are pretty uninspiring.    MSNBC wake up before your new found audience tunes out!
