Clinton Promises Womens Rights Focus as Sec of State
Nicholas Kristof has written a series of articles on the atrocities of women throughout the world. Whether it be acid attacks on young women in Pakistan, teenage sex trafficing in Cambodia, or other sundry abuses in Afghanastan (equal pay for women in America should be included in this list, but I am hopeful that the Obama administration can help change this) he has led the charge towards exposing injustice.
During Senator Clinton’s (D, New York) confirmation hearing for Secretary of State, Sen Barbara Boxer (D, California) brought up the issue of violence against women. Clinton pledged to view the issue as central to foreign policy. According to Kristoff’s blog article in the NY TIMES, Clinton plans to appoint a senior aid for these important, yet often overlooked issues.
